The Missouri Automobile Insurance Plan (the Plan) was created pursuant to Sections 303.200 and 379.460 R.S. MO., to provide automobile insurance coverages to those eligible applicants who are unable to obtain coverage in the voluntary market.
Effective September 1, 2008, the Missouri Plan replaced the Missouri Joint Underwriting Association as the state's automobile insurance residual market mechanism.
All insurers writing automobile insurance in Missouri are required to participate in the MOAIP by subscribing to the Plan. All agent and brokers holding a valid license to transact automobile insurance in the state of Missouri are eligible to submit applications to the Plan.
Applicants must declare and certify that they have tried and failed to obtain automobile insurance in Missouri within the preceding 60 days and have been unable to obtain such insurance at rates not exceeding those applicable under the Plan. Applicants must also have a valid drivers license or be eligible to obtain one through a filing. For further information, consumers should consult their agent or broker.
